Description

Under general supervision, this role acts as a frontline working supervisor, guiding a maintenance team in the daily responsibilities of maintaining and enhancing parks, street medians, rights-of-way, and other municipal properties. Responsibilities include scheduling work, hiring, evaluating, and managing personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervises the daily activities of laborers within the Parks Services Division, including training, assigning tasks, and monitoring work quality while providing guidance and support.
  • Assists management with personnel-related tasks such as hiring, training, setting goals, scheduling work crews, evaluating performance, and addressing disciplinary issues.
  • Conducts regular inspections of operations and personnel to identify inefficiencies and propose effective solutions to management.
  • Trains staff on the safe and proper use of equipment and tools, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Instructs team members on efficient methods to complete assignments.
  • Ensures that employees perform daily vehicle inspections and maintenance on all equipment and vehicles.
  • Identifies and reports hazards, taking immediate corrective action as necessary.
  • Prepares special reports and recommendations for supervisors as needed.
  • Recommends necessary supplies, tools, and equipment for park operations.
  • Assists in determining purchasing needs for upcoming projects and obtains price quotes for necessary materials.
  • Informs supervisors of potential hazards, problem areas, public inquiries, and the status of ongoing work activities.
  • Performs maintenance tasks as required, including operating commercial landscape and turf care equipment, planting, fertilizing, and maintaining various plant life, applying pesticides, and managing irrigation systems.
  • Adheres to all personnel, safety, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate payroll records for employees.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class "A" or "B" Commercial Driver's License within six months of hire.
Work Experience:
  • Two years of experience in commercial landscape, turf care, irrigation systems, and equipment operation and maintenance, along with one year of supervisory experience.
Must successfully complete a post-offer drug test and background checks.

  • Strong knowledge of turf, landscape, and irrigation practices, as well as safety procedures.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, make informed decisions, manage multiple projects, and work effectively under pressure.

  • Good hand-eye coordination for operating and repairing equipment.
  • Ability to follow directives and maintain positive working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed.
Physical Abilities:
  • Must be able to talk, read, see, walk, and hear to perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy objects, digging, and operating equipment in various environmental conditions.
