Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Oldcastle is a leading company in the construction materials industry, specializing in the production and supply of aggregates, concrete, and asphalt, while also providing infrastructure construction services.
Position Overview
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be tasked with conducting thorough inspections and repairs on various types of heavy machinery, including Ready Mix Trucks, End Dump Trucks, Tractors, Trailers, and Construction Equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency in all operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs, maintenance, and rebuilding of equipment.
2. Operate and inspect machinery to identify defects.
3. Disassemble and reassemble equipment using hand tools and hoists.
4. Assess parts for damage or wear using precision measuring tools.
5. Replace faulty engines and components such as transmissions, motors, and hydraulic systems.
6. Test repaired equipment to confirm operational efficiency.
7. Weld broken components and structural parts.
8. Supervise staff involved in cleaning and assisting with equipment assembly.
9. Maintain accurate records of time and materials used.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a two-year technical program in heavy equipment maintenance preferred.
- Relevant experience in heavy equipment maintenance or equivalent training is necessary.
- A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check is required.
- Compliance with safety regulations and willingness to work in a team environment is essential.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently.
- Proficient in interpreting technical instructions in various formats.
- Understanding of safety precautions related to equipment operation.
- Competent in basic math for record-keeping purposes.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, climbing, and lifting up to 94 lbs.
