Position Overview:

The Experiential Therapist I is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, facilitation, direction, and evaluation of experiential therapeutic programs tailored to the unique needs of patients and residents. This role involves comprehensive documentation within designated program areas and coordination of team efforts, including mentoring and evaluation of peers. The therapist is expected to manage basic staffing requirements and ensure the daily operations of the department in the absence of leadership. A solid foundation in various expressive and recreational modalities is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Professional Conduct:
    Exhibit professionalism in all interactions and foster collaborative relationships across disciplines to enhance a team-oriented approach to patient care.
  • Leadership and Mentorship:
    Provide guidance and role modeling, integrating group dynamics into therapeutic processes. Address individual concerns constructively and maintain a respectful demeanor in line with organizational behavior agreements.
  • Operational Participation:
    Engage in the Rogers Operating System (ROS) by understanding its processes, applying the model to departmental functions, and educating staff on ROS plans.
  • Staff Development:
    Assist in the recruitment, training, and education of new team members, contributing to the mentorship of staff in the principles of experiential therapy.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Demonstrate knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory standards, participating in ongoing education to ensure compliance within the Experiential Therapy department.
  • Program Coordination:
    Conduct scheduled experiential therapy sessions, evaluate and adapt programming to meet patient needs, and maintain departmental supplies and equipment.
  • Documentation:
    Complete treatment plans and therapeutic documentation in accordance with established policies, assisting in the auditing of team documentation.
  • Patient Engagement:
    Utilize intervention strategies to ensure patient safety, monitor behaviors, and establish therapeutic rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Intern Supervision:
    Oversee student interns in collaboration with the Experiential Therapy manager, contributing to the development of policies for the internship program.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    Adhere to infection control and employee health protocols, participate in mandatory training, and fulfill other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Physical and Educational Requirements:

Candidates must possess a BS/BA degree in a relevant field, with a preference for backgrounds in recreation, art, music, or dance therapy. A Master's degree or relevant certification is required, along with experience in group facilitation within a behavioral health context. Compliance with ongoing training and certification requirements is essential.
