Position Overview
As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Medical Assistant/Medical Receptionist plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care and administrative support. This full-time position is integral to the smooth operation of our medical practice.

Our comprehensive care model encompasses medical treatment, counseling, thorough toxicology testing, case management, and the management of psychiatric medications. We are committed to offering compassionate and personalized treatment plans tailored to support those dealing with substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities
1. Greet and welcome patients both in person and over the phone with a friendly demeanor.
2. Verify patient insurance details and manage co-pay and co-insurance collections.
3. Update patient demographics and insurance information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
4. Secure prior authorizations and referrals as required.
5. Ensure proper documentation of Release of Information signatures.
6. Maintain a professional phone manner, documenting messages accurately and directing them to the appropriate parties.
7. Keep the reception area tidy, organized, and compliant with HIPAA regulations.
8. Facilitate patient flow by notifying healthcare providers of patient arrivals and managing delays effectively.
9. Schedule and cancel appointments, ensuring a balanced schedule for all providers.
10. Coordinate random urine drug screenings and maintain associated documentation.
11. Address issues or potential concerns by directing them to the designated administrator or provider.
12. Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during appointments as necessary.
13. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, including supervised urine collections.
14. Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
15. Generate lab orders within the EMR system (Athena) and print requisitions for necessary blood work.
16. Monitor and reorder supplies promptly, coordinating deliveries with courier services as needed.
17. Track and assign unassigned lab reports in the EMR daily.

Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Experience with Athena EMR is advantageous.
- Familiarity with electronic prescribing policies and procedures is beneficial.
- Knowledge of medical and behavioral treatment guidelines and relevant policies is essential.
