Faculty Position in Surgical Pathology

The Department of Pathology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is seeking a general surgical pathologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with special interest or fellowship training in Head and Neck Pathology and/or Bone/Soft Tissue Pathology to join our faculty.

Service responsibilities will consist of general surgical pathology and cytology in an academic tertiary care center with a growing regional outside consult service.

The successful candidate will hold an academic appointment in the Department of Pathology and will participate in diagnostic, teaching, and translational research activities.

This position will be located within the University of New Mexico Hospital, the only Tier 1 Trauma Center located in the state of New Mexico, and may require infrequent travel to the UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center.

The Surgical Pathology Division also provides clinical services to the NCI-designated UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, and closely works with oncologists in multiple subspecialty tumor boards.

Research conducted by the faculty includes collaborative efforts with basic science and physician investigators within the Department of Pathology, other School of Medicine departments, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Human Tissue Repository, and the NIH-funded Clinical Translational Science Center.

Qualifications:

  • MD or equivalent
  • Board certification/eligible in Anatomic Pathology
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Desirable Requirements:

  • Strong general surgical pathology and cytopathology skills
  • Interest and/or experience in Head and Neck Pathology and/or Bone Soft Tissue Pathology
  • Enthusiasm for training pathology residents and fellows in surgical pathology
  • A desire to conduct surgical pathology related translational research
  • Enthusiasm for teaching in graduate medical curriculum
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
