Position Overview:
The Clinical Pharmacist in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) plays a vital role in delivering pharmaceutical care within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This position is dedicated to ensuring safe and effective medication management for patients in critical condition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough reviews of medication orders for appropriateness and accuracy.
  • Evaluate the safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of prescribed medications, collaborating with healthcare professionals to optimize patient therapy.
  • Provide comprehensive drug information regarding medication usage, potential side effects, and dosage to healthcare providers and patients.
  • Monitor patient profiles for potential drug interactions and ensure appropriate therapy management.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, including medication use evaluations and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to pharmacy and medical literature and participate in research activities.
  • Supervise the preparation and dispensing of medications, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including code and trauma alerts.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory levels and ensuring the security of controlled substances.
  • Participate in the development and review of electronic order entry systems.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through continuing education and training.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of one year of hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Completion of a clinical pharmacy residency is preferred.
  • Current Texas Pharmacist license is mandatory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and PALS/ACLS certifications are required within specified timeframes.
