Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioner

The Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in a collaborative healthcare environment, working alongside a diverse team within the Pediatric Critical Care division. This position is primarily centered on the Intermediate Care Unit, where the focus is on managing pediatric patients with intricate medical requirements who are transitioning from intensive care but still necessitate additional support beyond what is typically available on the general ward. This role requires a high level of independence, critical analytical skills, and clinical proficiency in managing complex and critically ill children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough patient evaluations, including physical and psychological assessments, tailored to age and medical condition.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to formulate, implement, and assess patient care strategies, including the ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests.
  • Exhibit expertise in specialized technical and procedural skills relevant to pediatric care.
  • Offer comprehensive management, referrals, counseling, and educational support to patients and their families regarding ongoing care and preventive health strategies.
  • Engage in quality enhancement initiatives through participation in workshops, seminars, and team meetings aimed at improving clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborate on research endeavors and apply best practices based on evidence to optimize patient care.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree or higher in nursing, with proof of completion from an accredited Advanced Practice Education Program.
  • Graduate education and corresponding Texas Board of Nursing authorization must align with the clinical practice area and patient demographic.
  • Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Preferred: A minimum of one year of pediatric experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in critical care settings.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (CPNP-AC) licensure by the Texas State Board of Nursing with prescriptive authority, OR
  • Licensure by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications from recognized organizations.

Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of pediatric care.
  • Ability to operate independently.
  • Sound judgment and accuracy in clinical decision-making.
  • Commitment to maintaining up-to-date clinical and technical skills.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement in departmental policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in patient care.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily within a clinical setting.
  • Potential exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
