Critical Care Stepdown Registered Nurse

Position Overview:
The Critical Care Stepdown Registered Nurse plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. This position requires a dedicated professional who can assess, plan, and implement patient care strategies effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and address patient care requirements through comprehensive assessments.
- Execute physician directives with precision.
- Administer medications as prescribed, manage wound care, and monitor vital signs diligently.
- Provide essential cardiopulmonary support and continuous monitoring for patients.
- Act as the primary liaison among various healthcare disciplines to ensure seamless patient care.
- Utilize computerized documentation systems to monitor, record, and relay patient conditions.
- Educate patients and their families on care plans and health management.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess and coordinate discharge planning needs.
- Deliver care that is culturally and age-appropriate.
- Mentor and orient new nursing staff.
- Adhere to Standard Precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required - Magnet Facility
- A.D.N with Chief Nursing Officer approval and current enrollment in a BSN program, or enrollment within six months of hire with completion within 24 months.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Current Texas RN or Compact State Licensure.
- ACLS and BLS certifications are mandatory.
- PALS certification must be obtained within six months.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in Stepdown, Progressive Care, PCU, or Intermediate Care nursing within an acute care setting is required; two years is preferred.
- At least one year of PCU experience is necessary (two years preferred).
- Consideration will be given to candidates with a gap of no more than five years in acute care experience.
- Basic knowledge of intravenous drip management and EKG interpretation is essential.
Additional Insights:
- Unit specifics: 28 Bed Critical Care Unit, encompassing SICU, MICU, and CVICU.
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:2 in critical care; 1:3 to 1:4 in the unit.
- Patient demographics: Diverse cases including Open Heart, Trauma, Burn, Vascular, and Sepsis. Flexibility to float between CCU, Burn, and Trauma units is required.
- Work culture: Emphasis on exceptional customer service, treating patients with compassion, and fostering teamwork among seasoned and new nurses. The environment is dynamic, with high acuity cases and a supportive leadership style.
- Facility culture: Features a 24-hour Trauma Surgery Team, free parking, and engaged leadership. Utilizes Meditech for charting. A significant percentage of nurses hold CCRN and Trauma certifications. - Shifts: Full-time positions available for Days (7A-7P) and Nights (7P-7A), including rotating weekends.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience, with additional differentials for night and weekend shifts.
