Job Description

Job Summary:

The Bed Planning Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring optimal patient flow and bed utilization across the health system. This position requires strong communication and analytical skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Obtain patient bed reservations for all EHC operating units
  • Coordinate room assignments to optimize bed utilization across the health system
  • Manage appropriate patient flow using protocols and department training
  • Accept phone calls from stakeholders, including physicians, nurses, and leadership
  • Validate nightly OR schedule and target patients to appropriate locations/care levels
  • Support efficient utilization of EHC beds in accordance with health system standards and patient placement policies
  • Communicate patient placement needs to stakeholders through verbal and written communications
  • Manage patient assignments via electronic patient flow application
  • Utilize bed prioritization and ready to move functionality for optimal placement
  • Complete regular validation of census, bed requests, bed block management, and other critical data reviews
  • Collaborate with bed planning team members to identify opportunities for load balancing and alleviating flow bottlenecks
  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain high phone service metrics
  • Participate in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends and practices
  • Collect and analyze transfer-specific data to assure efficiency of processes
  • Maintain accurate documentation concerning patient admission, transfer, or discharge decisions
  • Serve as a resource on bed status and patient placement
  • Support research and related activities as needed
  • Act as a mentor and trainer for new team members

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required
  • Valid, active unencumbered nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board
  • Three years of recent critical care nursing experience with supervision and patient bed placement
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Provider and ACLS certifications required

Work Environment:

This position requires a medium-heavy physical demand level, with occasional to frequent standing and walking. You will also be expected to work in an environment with exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, and communicable diseases.
