Healthcare Support Specialist

This role is essential in supporting healthcare providers in delivering quality patient care through various responsibilities.
Position Summary:
The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in preparing patients for consultations with medical professionals. This includes escorting patients to examination rooms, measuring vital signs, and gathering comprehensive health histories. The position involves performing essential medical and therapeutic tasks under the guidance of healthcare providers, such as blood draws, handling laboratory specimens, conducting EKGs, performing spirometry tests, and executing basic waived laboratory assessments.
Additionally, this role includes the preparation and administration of medications and immunizations, changing dressings, applying bandages, and executing first aid procedures as necessary. The Healthcare Support Specialist is also responsible for maintaining patient records within the Electronic Medical Record system, addressing patient inquiries through established communication channels, and facilitating necessary communications for prescription refills, imaging, or specialist consultations.
Furthermore, this position emphasizes the importance of protecting patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality while fostering a collaborative environment with other healthcare professionals to enhance patient care. The individual in this role is expected to uphold professionalism and deliver care with cultural sensitivity.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. A minimum of one year of experience in a similar role, such as a Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician, in a healthcare setting is preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant from a recognized certifying body is desirable, or eligibility for certification is required. Proficiency in electronic medical records is necessary, with experience in eClinicalWorks (eCW) software being an advantage.
Key skills include strong verbal and written communication abilities, organizational skills, and proficiency in personal computing, including word processing and Microsoft Office applications. Flexibility to work at various locations within the organization is also expected.
