Job Summary

We are seeking a Patient Access Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying insurance benefits and performing pre-certification on Surgical Day Care Patients, Observation Patients, Inpatients, and Outpatient procedures.

Responsibilities
  1. Verify insurance benefits and pre-certification requirements for all direct admits, ER admits, and scheduled procedures.
  2. Use good customer service skills when contacting patients or physician offices regarding benefits or insurance information.
  3. Review faxcert or AllScripts to obtain physician orders, clinical information, and insurance information.
  4. Obtain and verify prior authorizations and compare to physician orders to ensure accuracy.
  5. Communicate and assist other insurance verifiers with daily and future work.
  6. Participate in departmental meetings and recommend improvement opportunities.
  7. Notify the Medicaid counselor and financial counselor of self-pay patients or when patients' insurance has terminated.
  8. Understand and adjust working hours and job duties to accommodate patients and the department.
  9. Communicate with stakeholders when issues delay treatment due to pre-certification or verification requirements.
  10. Document significant patient information to hospital departments and physician offices in a professional manner.
Requirements

We require a High School diploma or equivalent and at least three years of clerical experience in a professional customer service-oriented office environment. At least one year of insurance verification/pre-certification experience is required.
