Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at Duke Health's South Durham Primary Care location. As a key member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide direct patient care and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of our clinic.

Responsibilities
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients and preparing them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic.
  • Take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and promote patient/family understanding of educational content and their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Document patient records, dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, and perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments.
  • Telephonate prescriptions to pharmacies, prepare and administer medications as directed by physicians, and authorize drug refills as directed.
Requirements
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting required for Level II and III.
