About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Taxpayer Services Specialist to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional service to taxpayers, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, and promoting a culture of excellence within our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to taxpayers on individual income, excise, and employment taxes, as well as other tax-related matters.
  • Conduct interviews with taxpayers to determine their tax situation, provide guidance, and explain the consequences of various courses of action.
  • Collaborate with tax practitioners and accountants to discuss tax law impact and review financial records to gain a deeper understanding of taxpayers' financial status.
  • Communicate complex tax information to taxpayers and their representatives, ensuring they understand the applicability of tax laws, regulations, notices, and account adjustments.
  • Assist taxpayers in preparing tax returns, explaining the consequences of different courses of action, and explaining the collection and examination processes.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national and provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Must undergo a review of prior performance and an income tax verification.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check.
  • Must complete a suitability determination at the time requested by the agency.
  • Must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process.
Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • General experience: Three years of general experience, one year of which was at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal Service.
  • Education: A 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service.

You will be evaluated based on your qualifications, experience, and education. Your application will be reviewed to determine your eligibility for the position. If you are among the top qualified candidates, your application may be referred to a selecting official for consideration.
