Highway Maintenance Technician

Clark County Public Works is seeking a highly skilled Highway Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Road Maintenance & Operations division, you will play a vital role in maintaining the county's infrastructure and ensuring the safety of our community.
Key Responsibilities- Perform skilled labor in maintaining and repairing roads, drainage systems, and controlling vegetation of the County roadways.
- Operate hand tools, vehicles, and equipment to accomplish assigned work tasks, including trucks, sanders, chippers, and loaders.
- Contribute to road maintenance by performing activities such as setting out traffic control signs, grinding asphalt, patching holes, and repairing roadway shoulders.
- Clear county roads of hazards during winter season, including hooking plow attachments to trucks and operating power sanders or anti-icing equipment.
- Maintain and repair roadway drainage systems, including clearing culverts and catch basins, cleaning culvert or pipe ends, and hand-placing riprap around culvert ends.
- Control roadside vegetation by cutting vegetation above and beside the roadway, using chain saws, pole saws, bucket trucks, chippers, and other tools.
- Experience in highway maintenance, highway or building construction, farming, forestry, or landscaping, or any other labor-intensive work experience that directly involves operating machinery, small tools, power tools, vehicles, or equipment.
- Must possess or obtain within six months of hire a Commercial Driver's License Class A with 'N' tanker endorsement.
- Ability to perform labor-intensive tasks for extended periods under unfavorable weather conditions, safely use and operate tools and equipment, and work cooperatively as a crew member.
Incumbents typically work in an outdoor setting in varied weather conditions, operating industrial equipment, with some time spent inside the cab of the equipment away from adverse weather conditions.
