Position Overview

A Substitute School Bus Operator is required to assist in transporting students safely to and from educational institutions.

Age Requirement: Candidates must be at least 21 years old.

Licensing: A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with both Student and Passenger Endorsements is necessary.

Training: Complimentary training for obtaining CDL and endorsements is provided.

Background Check: Successful completion of a background investigation is mandatory.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Participation in a 3-Day Safety Class (at no cost)
  • Completion of Entry-Level Driver Training (at no cost)
  • DOT Physical Examination (reimbursement may be available)
  • Passing the CDL B examination with Passenger and Student Endorsements at the DMV (reimbursement may be available)
  • Successful completion of the final Driving/Pre-Trip Skills assessment (reimbursement may be available)

Compensation: Pay is determined based on the specific route assigned.

Job Availability: This position operates on an 'On Call' basis, with opportunities for field trips and sports events.

Key Responsibilities: The role involves the safe transportation of students from Preschool through 12th grade, including those with special needs (operating wheelchair lifts and securing devices). Drivers must be capable of navigating various weather conditions and driving during nighttime hours. Compliance with Public Law 54 is required, which includes physical tasks such as ascending and descending bus stairs within a designated timeframe, as well as managing vehicle controls effectively while driving.
