Job Title: Automotive Airbag Inflator Technician

Under the supervision of a senior technician, the Automotive Airbag Inflator Technician will be responsible for building prototype automotive airbag inflators for internal and external customers. The successful candidate will perform routine technical tasks from detailed standardized procedures, build energetic subassemblies according to written instructions, and operate specialized welding, assembly, and test equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build prototype automotive airbag inflators according to written procedures and process steps.
  • Set up and operate laboratory machinery such as laser welders, resistance welders, gas fill machines, friction welders, and others.
  • Build energetic assemblies from drawings and written instructions.
  • Perform conformance tests (weld sections, leak checks, electrical tests, hydrobursts, etc.) to verify product quality.
  • Assemble special test fixtures to evaluate energetic material performance according to written instructions.
  • Work closely with and follow direction from design and applications engineers.
  • Maintain energetic inventory in strict accordance with BATF (US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) regulations.
  • Record data for evaluations and call attention to deviations from the established standard.
  • Proactively participate in safety programs and follow all written and implied safety rules.
Work Environment and Conditions:

The work environment will be in a shop setting, and the employee may be required to work weekends, holidays, and be on-call on occasion. The employee will be exposed to mechanical or chemical processes requiring the use of personal protective equipment.

The employee will be expected to have excellent hearing and will be in close contact with energetic live inflator systems during normal work activities.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with one (1) year of related experience.
  • Formal training in the area of specialization preferred, such as training received from a technical trade school or military technical school.
  • Mechanical aptitude demonstrated in the successful completion of the mechanical aptitude test.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions and technical drawings.
  • Attention to detail and manual dexterity required.
  • Ability to stand for eight (8) hours.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with various computer programs, such as Excel, Word, etc., with an emphasis on spreadsheet functions.
  • Excellent communication and multi-tasking skills.

Any equivalent combination of relevant experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.

Salary:

$16.50 per hour
