Job Summary

As the Director of Donor Engagement, you will lead and direct all Donor Engagement and Stewardship activities for Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, ensuring our appreciation to donors is properly conveyed for their support. This role involves managing staff, collaborating with the entire Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement team, and working with Deans, Directors, and Designees across the University and Health System Enterprise to achieve high standards of stewardship excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, direct, and plan for donor engagement and stewardship events, including annual cumulative giving events, individual donor recognition events, and collaboration with School, College, and Units to provide best practice support for their individual scholarship events.
  • Direct and manage the Gift Agreement process in collaboration with the VP for Foundations, ensuring timely review, edits, and signatures of these important documents.
  • Lead a comprehensive process to create quality annual endowment reports that work cohesively with annual reporting for our Foundations (AU and MCG).
  • Review and recommend updated content for Donor Engagement and Stewardship website, ensuring current, compelling donor stories are uploaded and accessible.
  • Collaborate with Philanthropy Communications on video production in support of special events and messaging to key constituents, ensuring a sound social media strategy in support of Donor Engagement and Stewardship activities.
  • Direct and manage staff to handle a myriad of outreach activities that steward donors, including birthday cards, holiday cards, consecutive giving recognition, and collaborating with the Director of Annual Giving and the AVP of Gift & Estate Planning to manage stewardship for all identified societies.
  • Maintain the Policies and Procedures library for all facets of Donor Engagement and Stewardship, including donor recognition standards for all facilities and programs, and manage the existing donor recognition inventory.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of experience in higher education or non-profit organization, specifically, experience stewarding private philanthropic gifts, or seven or more years of experience/training in fundraising, sales, marketing, or similar.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university and five or more years major gift fundraising experience in higher education or non-profit organization, specifically, experience in personally stewarding private philanthropic gifts.
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of standard event management tasks and resources.
  • Experience with databases (especially Raiser's Edge) and internet searches.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal/written communication skills, attention to detail, and analytical abilities.
  • A high energy level, integrity, and sincerity.
  • Ability to multi-task, think creatively, and handle a heavy workload.
  • Requires adaptability, good judgment, and initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds, including healthcare professionals, community leaders, as well as patients, families, volunteers, and employees.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and conduct multi-day business trips.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
