Job Description Summary

The Novartis Group of Companies is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Scientist to join our team in Cambridge, MA. As a key member of our Chemical Genetics group, you will be responsible for prosecuting hits from phenotypic screens, performing lab-based research, and interpreting activity data from cell-based assays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applying chemistry expertise to prosecute on hits from phenotypic screens
  • Performing lab-based research using organic synthesis experiments and purification procedures
  • Interpreting activity data from cell-based assays to establish SAR and develop probe molecules
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to share expertise and work towards shared goals
  • Frequent oral data communication and presentation

Requirements:

  • A recent B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemistry with 0-3 years' experience in the design, synthesis, and characterization of organic compounds
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods and medicinal chemistry
  • Experience with common spectroscopy, analytical techniques, and chromatography purification systems
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative style for effective team participation
  • Curiosity, creativity, scientific agility, and interest in small molecule design, synthesis, and optimization
