Job Overview

AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Research Scientist II to lead a team of analytical scientists in the development of New Chemical Entities (NCEs) drug substance and drug product in both preclinical and clinical phases.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in analytical chemistry, excellent analytical problem-solving skills, and experience in developing analytical control strategies, method development, characterization, validation, release, and stability testing.

The successful candidate will be responsible for directing research and project activities, mentoring and guiding team members, and contributing to the development of novel multi-disciplinary research or development strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead an analytical team to support the development of NCE candidates from pre-clinical through Phase II clinical trials.
  • Mentor analysts on the development of phase-appropriate analytical strategies involving Drug Substance and Drug Product.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Analytical R&D organization.
  • Encourage ideas and drive for continuous improvement and champion initiatives within Analytical R&D.
  • Understand and comply with AbbVie safety, quality, and regulatory policies and government regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with a minimum of 16 (BS), 14 (MS), or 8 (Ph.D.) years related industry experience.
  • Strong technical background in analytical chemistry, excellent analytical problem-solving skills, and experience in developing analytical control strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with HPLC analysis and method development, and fundamental understanding of various analytical techniques.
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented individual able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • High-quality written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with interdisciplinary scientists and engineers.
