Development Associate, Community Fundraising Specialist

About the Role

The University of Miami is seeking a highly motivated and organized Development Associate to support the fundraising programs for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a key member of the Community Fundraising team, you will work closely with the Philanthropy Officer to plan and execute development activities that establish donor connections with the institution and foster an environment for philanthropic gifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a strategic fundraising plan for UHealth/MSOM, including measurable objectives and courses of action for significant activities throughout the year.
  • Identify prospective community fundraising donors and funding sources, in conjunction with faculty and staff, and cultivate and solicit gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and third-party organizations in support of strategic UHealth MSOM priorities.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned projects and key donors, as well as UHealth's and MSOM's needs, both general and specific to various programs and departments.
  • Assist in documenting contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in IBIS and other appropriate donor files, and ensure that past donors are regularly communicated with and re-solicited on a timely basis.
  • Attend third-party organizations' fundraising events, work closely with the DCC team, and assist in all collaborative efforts regarding Team Hurricanes.
  • Work with UHealth Marketing on branding efforts and messaging for recruitment, activation, and post-event follow-up, and distribute Community Fundraising event marketing materials to satellite locations.
  • Manage and coordinate third-party organizations' participation in the DCC, such as The Pap Corps, and WCA, as needed.
  • Follow all University Advancement policies and procedures and complete all Advancement trainings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with one year of fundraising or event experience, or equivalent combinations of education/experience.
  • Knowledge of fundraising and event management, with excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, creative, energetic, and assertive, with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Exceptional work ethic and commitment, with the ability to work some weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Excel, Microsoft Word essential, with knowledge of Blackbaud CRM a plus.
