As a Firmware Engineer at Fox Robotics, you will contribute to the design of embedded software features and functionality to develop advanced robotic vehicle platforms. This role involves cross-functional workflows to deliver a robust, high-quality vehicle, working closely with hardware, software, and system integration teams to create a performant and safe platform. Some travel is required (< 20%).
 
About the Role:
  • Architecture, design, and implementation of distributed systems containing multiple motor controllers, PLCs, and other embedded devices.
  • Collaboration with engineering teams to determine requirements and interfaces.
  • Safety and reliability analysis and design of firmware systems.
  • Ensuring consistently high quality for easy and reliable operation.
  • Working closely with manufacturing teams to ensure repeatable and consistent processes.
  • Establishing well-written documentation of firmware design, processes, and systems.
  • Designing and analyzing control systems for an autonomous robotic platform.
  • Supporting Field Engineers resolving robot issues at customer sites to resolve issues with urgency.
Requirements and Qualifications:
• B.S. in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Strong object-oriented programming background (Python or C heavily preferred).
• Proven PLC programming experience.
• Experience programming motor controllers.
• Knowledge of and hands-on experience with CANopen, TCP/UDP, and other communication protocols.
• Capability in sensor and hardware selection, integration, and testing.
• Experience designing distributed real-time embedded systems.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Conducting root cause analysis to determine Interim and Permanent corrective actions, and implementing these in Firmware.
• Ability to own a project from start to finish and deliver on time, with quality.
