Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant role is essential in organizing and overseeing the financial operations of Alliance For Children, which includes general accounting practices, timely financial reporting, and managing grant tracking and allocations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct transactional accounting duties utilizing nonprofit accounting software, including general ledger oversight, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, payroll processing, and management of accounts receivable and payable, ensuring adherence to GAAP standards.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements promptly for internal review and Board presentations.
  • Support staff in managing program budgets as assigned.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, expense forecasts, and budgetary recommendations.
  • Ensure timely submission of all relevant tax returns and governmental filings.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer in overseeing local, state, and federal grant budgets, as well as private and foundation grants.
  • Monitor, track, and report on grant expenditure statuses as required.
  • Coordinate the financial components of grant reports and billing to ensure compliance with funding source requirements and policies.
  • Prepare financial documents, schedules, and supporting materials for external audits.
  • Act as the primary contact for Annual and Single Audits.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Chief Executive Officer.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of direct accounting experience is required, with a preference for nonprofit accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with government regulations concerning grants at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Understanding of nonprofit tax and audit requirements.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and fiscal management.
  • A valid driver's license and proof of liability insurance are required for agency-related driving.
  • Successful completion of annual criminal and civil background checks is mandatory.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and present oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Capability to remain composed and professional under deadline pressures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files and file cabinet drawers, as well as reach overhead. Proficiency in operating a telephone and computer. Capability to lift up to 20 lbs.
