Position Overview
This role is designed to support the Technical Services Manager in overseeing student personnel and executing administrative responsibilities for the theater program and associated events. The position entails delivering technical assistance in various domains including lighting, sound, video, staging, special effects, rigging, and scenery. Responsibilities also include the setup and operation of technical equipment, ensuring safe and effective usage, and performing maintenance on audio and lighting systems as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in fine arts or a related discipline, along with at least one year of experience in a technical theater role.

Preferred Education and Experience
A BA/BFA degree with three years of relevant experience showcasing a solid understanding of stage management, stage carpentry, theatrical rigging, lighting, and audio practices, or an MA/MFA degree with relevant experience demonstrating similar competencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the Technical Director on all facets of production design and execution.
  • Provide direct assistance to faculty and students in executing student productions as directed by the Technical Director.
  • As Scene Shop Foreman, oversee project management for the production team, including intricate scheduling of design, construction, production, and dismantling protocols.
  • Recruit, manage, and schedule student workers for productions and events, including specialized training as needed.
  • Oversee sound and lighting requirements for all event spaces.
  • Coordinate with technical resources staff to manage video requirements as requested.
  • Review and provide guidance on technical specifications in contracts for prospective performers and groups.
  • Coordinate with production teams for guest performers, ensuring all facility preparations comply with university policies.
  • Manage preventive maintenance and regular testing of lighting and sound equipment for safety and reliability.
  • Maintain a library of technical publications, manuals, safety data sheets, and other relevant information, while also pursuing professional development opportunities.

Physical Requirements
Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. A remote work arrangement is not applicable for this position.
