Washington, Washington, D.C., United States PhRMA Full time
Overview

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is looking for an Associate Vice President to join its Public Affairs division. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Public Affairs and will focus on two primary areas: strategic initiatives and research/polling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the formulation and implementation of strategy and insights-driven projects in collaboration with various departments and senior management.
  • Supervise the research and polling unit that conducts regular studies for both internal and external purposes, utilizing quantitative, qualitative, social listening, AI, and other methodologies.
  • Manage the development and execution of long-term strategy projects in domains such as reputation management, messaging innovation, risk evaluation, original thought leadership, strategic planning, industry positioning, and narrative crafting.
  • Collaborate with the broader Public Affairs team and the PhRMA organization to integrate strategic insights into our initiatives.
  • Design and implement project plans, memos, presentations, and other materials for the team.
  • Oversee timelines, budgets, meetings, vendor relations, presentations/briefings, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Act as a representative for the team both internally and with external stakeholders, delivering impactful presentations to various audiences.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Success Factors:
PhRMA seeks a proactive, solution-oriented, strategic thinker who is enthusiastic about strategic insights and advocacy communications. Essential success factors for this position include a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration, a results-driven mindset, and the ability to work independently.

The ideal candidate will possess a blend of research insights, strategy formulation, and political communications expertise. This includes knowledge in politics, research/polling, advocacy communications, consulting, strategic planning, and/or project management for large organizations, government entities, and/or institutions.

Moreover, the candidate should be an organized, detail-oriented self-starter with exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex information in a clear and engaging manner.

Demonstrating consensus-building skills among internal and external stakeholders, as well as strong decision-making and interpersonal abilities, is crucial. This position is highly visible and fast-paced, requiring adaptability, the ability to reprioritize quickly, and comfort in high-pressure situations while being politically astute, diplomatic, and responsive.

Professional Experience / Requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven understanding of strategic insights, the political landscape, and the advocacy environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, consulting, change management, project management, and client relations.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach that fosters confidence and incorporates diverse perspectives into the team's work.
  • Outstanding communication (both verbal and listening) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management capabilities: adept at prioritizing, delegating, following up, and taking initiative.
  • A curious mindset that encourages the right inquiries and a commitment to seeing projects through to completion.
  • The ability to synthesize, clarify, and communicate complex issues and ideas to a non-technical audience.
  • Capacity to work effectively with a diverse, bipartisan array of stakeholders.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Expertise in analytics, employing both quantitative and qualitative data, and applying it within a business context.

Compensation:

$187,100-$253,270 annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
