Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding career in healthcare? Do you have a passion for maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records? We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Records Specialist 1 to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Medical Records Specialist 1 will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records for patients, including admissions, discharges, and transfers. This includes reviewing and verifying medical records for completeness and accuracy, as well as preparing reports and charts for surveying bodies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for patients
  • Review and verify medical records for completeness and accuracy
  • Prepare reports and charts for surveying bodies
  • Assist in maintaining a file of medical records, including daily admissions and discharges, daily census, case histories, and results of diagnostic tests
  • Code and file diagnoses according to anatomical systems and in conformance with accepted international classification systems
  • Prepare statistical reports on matters such as classification of disease, laboratory, dental, X-ray, and physiotherapy activities
  • Prepare death certificates, burial permits, and other related records
  • May attend probate court hearings and give testimony
Requirements:
  • Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance of medical records and preparation of statistical reports
  • Experience with medical terminology and coding principles and techniques
  • Experience with office systems and procedures
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with court subpoenas proceedings
  • Experience with medical terminology
  • Experience with Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Office
  • Experience utilizing interpersonal skills in the workplace, with coworkers and clients
  • Experience providing clear and thorough communication
Special Requirements:

Persons having responsibility for supervising or observing the behavior of inmates or custodial clients will be required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification by the time of permanent appointment.

This position will be filled in accordance with contractual language, reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion, and merit employment rules.
