Role Overview:

The Electric Transmission Engineer plays a critical role in providing technical support for electric transmission initiatives, including expansions, renovations, and relocations, while also assisting in the management of electric and natural gas utilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with guidelines, policies, practices, standards, and regulations related to transmission design.
  • Provide engineering design and support for the replacement of transmission poles and airbreak switches.
  • Oversee projects and manage both contract and internal construction teams.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, create drawings, and compile databases using computer software.
  • Prepare and document technical reports.
  • Address customer inquiries through field investigations.
  • Survey and evaluate potential routes.
  • Ensure cost estimates align with company standards and current tariffs.
  • Assist in developing project-specific capital budgets.
  • Participate in on-call duties after hours, requiring residence in the greater metro area; respond to emergencies and coordinate after-hours activities.
  • Handle physical tasks, including lifting and transporting office supplies up to 35 pounds.
  • Adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics.
  • Align actions with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • Preferred: Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer's License.
  • Preferred: Experience in transmission construction and design.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with PLS-CADD and surveying techniques.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of International Fuel Gas Code, NESC, NEC, and DOT regulations (Parts 191 and 192).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proven track record of maintaining safety standards.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is required.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
