Position Summary:

The Construction Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting engineering initiatives for gas and electric utility projects, including growth, expansions, extensions, and relocations. This position also involves assisting in the operation of electric and natural gas services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering support for utility growth and project expansions, including design and oversight of construction activities
  • Design electric and natural gas facilities in accordance with established business processes
  • Supervise construction projects and manage both contract and company crews
  • Conduct engineering analyses and prepare technical documentation
  • Perform field investigations to address customer needs
  • Survey and inspect project routes
  • Ensure cost estimates align with company standards and current tariffs
  • Assist in developing project-specific budgets
  • Collaborate closely with division operations
  • Participate in on-call duties for emergency situations as required
  • Adhere to company safety standards and ethical guidelines
  • Align actions with NorthWestern Energy's core values and strategic objectives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (New graduates expected by May 2024 are encouraged to apply)
  • Preferred ability to obtain a Professional Engineer's License
  • Experience in construction and design is advantageous
  • Familiarity with SAP, line design, and DDS is preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and regulations (International Fuel Gas Code, NESC, NEC, DOT Part 191 and 192) is beneficial
  • Understanding of survey techniques and microprocessor-based equipment is preferred
  • Proven safety record and valid driver's license required
