Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Senior Principal Engineer to lead initiatives within the Enterprise team, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering for the Enterprise Platform. This role involves addressing critical challenges for Atlassian, facilitating the transition of Enterprise clients to cloud solutions, and applying enterprise-level strategies across our product suite to enhance the experience for all customer segments. You will collaborate with approximately 1000 engineers to tackle complex and significant issues, providing technical guidance, prioritization, design, architecture, and hands-on development.

In this Role, You Will:

  • Establish and communicate a clear vision and strategic roadmap for various projects within the Enterprise team.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on company-wide initiatives.
  • Inspire and guide technical teams by exemplifying engineering excellence in design, architecture, and coding practices.
  • Develop and implement systems that are reliable, secure, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Mentor and support engineers and engineering managers.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leaders within the Enterprise team and across the organization.
  • Identify future needs and challenges while addressing current engineering obstacles.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and evaluate their potential impact on Atlassian's direction.

Qualifications:

Your Background:

  • We expect you to have:
    • Over 15 years of experience in technical leadership, particularly in designing and building cloud-based enterprise solutions using platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
    • A proven track record in creating scalable platforms and components that are widely utilized.
    • The ability to set our technical vision and educate the broader organization in your area of expertise.
    • A strong commitment to software engineering excellence, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
    • Experience in identifying and reconciling gaps and redundancies across teams.
    • Proficiency in developing clear technical solutions and leading engineers through collaboration.
    • Hands-on coding experience and fluency in at least one programming language, such as Java, Kotlin, C, or C++.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • 10+ years of industry experience.
    • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science.
    • In-depth knowledge of public cloud environments (experience with AWS is preferred, but skills with other providers are valuable).
    • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, cloud data management, storage technologies, cloud security, and encryption.
    • Experience leading engineering teams through significant projects involving substantial changes to technology stacks.

Compensation Details:

At Atlassian, we prioritize equitable and transparent compensation practices. Our baseline compensation exceeds typical market ranges, and we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. The base salary for this role is determined by geographic zone:

Zone A: $279,600 - $372,800
