Job Overview

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role does not involve direct supervision or management of staff.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate for the Switcher position will efficiently and safely relocate trailers within the facility in a dynamic environment. Additionally, they will assist dock teams and other labor groups as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport 18-wheelers between docks within the premises
  • Maintain a secure working environment
  • Collaborate with dock personnel, drivers, and fellow switchers
  • Perform yard inspections
  • Operate the fuel truck as necessary
  • Complete assigned dock tasks
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as directed by management

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience operating a switcher or over-the-road trailer
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, capable of multitasking, and a team-oriented individual

Physical Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license appropriate for the state of employment

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position primarily takes place outdoors but may require work in an indoor office setting for administrative tasks, necessitating the use of computers and standard office equipment. Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English is essential. The candidate must be able to work in various outdoor conditions, including exposure to dust and allergens. Occasional work on scaffolding may be required. The role demands the ability to stand, sit, squat, bend, reach, and twist regularly to perform essential functions. Candidates must be capable of operating all necessary machinery within the department and across the facility, including driving the appropriate switcher vehicles. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted consistently is also required.
