Overview
As a Service Repair Specialist, you will execute service repairs and preventive maintenance while upholding the esteemed reputation of Patten Cat.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately complete all service documentation, inspection reports, and timecards in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Ensure all paperwork is finalized before proceeding to the next assignment; inform the dispatcher of any additional time required to finish tasks.
- Utilize service information systems, electronic tools, parts, and maintenance manuals effectively.
- Organize job segments and procure parts as necessary.
- Return surplus parts promptly after job completion, ensuring all warranty documentation is filled out and follow-up forms are submitted in a timely manner.
- Communicate job progress effectively to clients and office staff.
- Work efficiently both on-site at customer locations and in the workshop.
- Conduct thorough troubleshooting of electrical, hydraulic, and powertrain systems using prescribed tools and guidelines.
- Maintain all Patten Cat provided tools and equipment, including the company service vehicle.
- Coordinate special parts arrangements to minimize equipment downtime.
- Perform mechanical tasks related to departmental operations.
- Stay updated with industry standards and practices.
- Deliver exceptional customer service with a strong work ethic, professional appearance, and effective communication skills. Take full responsibility for assigned tasks.
- Adhere to safe working practices.
- Maintain a Class 'B' CDL.
- Ensure that rework or excessive labor does not exceed 5% of total hours worked, and prevent any damage to customer or company equipment due to negligence.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three years of experience in Heavy Equipment.
Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrate the ability to perform high-quality repairs efficiently while maintaining a clean work environment in the field.
- Work independently and utilize available resources for information when documentation is lacking.
- Exhibit strong decision-making skills and the ability to follow instructions.
- Show effective communication skills, representing Patten Cat's professional image to clients and colleagues.
- Possess good organizational skills and the ability to write technical reports.
- Have intermediate keyboarding skills and a basic understanding of Office software, preferably MS Word.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
This role involves working in both field and shop environments, as well as at customer job sites. The position may require continuous lifting, bending, and carrying of weights up to 75 lbs.
Appropriate safety equipment (e.g., steel-toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, cut-resistant gloves) must be worn as required. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to high. Flexibility to work varying schedules and hours is essential, along with travel between locations.
