Job Description

Overview:

The Dispatcher I plays a crucial role in managing the daily operations of delivery personnel. This includes overseeing the scheduling of deliveries, coordinating truck dispatches, and handling necessary documentation. The position involves developing procedures to guarantee efficient and timely deliveries while addressing operational challenges as they arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promptly assign delivery orders to the nearest available driver based on location.
  • Manage delivery assignments and reroute any orders that cannot be fulfilled.
  • Deliver exceptional service to clients during phone interactions.
  • Provide delivery technicians with relevant updates regarding their assigned pickups and deliveries.
  • Accurately enter all pertinent information into the internal transportation system/database.
  • Prioritize and organize tasks and calls based on urgency.
  • Confirm delivery schedules with clients prior to dispatch.
  • Notify relevant departments about any undeliverable orders.
  • Maintain an updated list of on-call delivery technicians for specific shifts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role or as a Delivery Technician.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and demonstrated data entry experience.

Physical and Working Conditions:

  • This position involves certain physical and mental demands typical of the role. Meeting these requirements is essential, but reasonable accommodations may be made.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Capability to read small print and view a computer screen for long durations.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
