About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team at Hawaiian Electric Company. As a key member of our P TD TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION ENGINEERING Department, you will be responsible for designing, project engineering, and project management of capital construction programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare plans, layouts, design calculations, and related engineering design in accordance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Conduct project design and cost alternative studies, field inspections, and prepare associated reports.
  • Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets, schedules, material and construction specifications, and construction contracts for projects assigned.
  • Perform project engineering and project management functions for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate work by consulting engineers, evaluate proposals and bids for engineering services and equipment, and make recommendations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in a relevant discipline from an accredited engineering school.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering theories and principles acquired through advanced college-level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of engineering design, project engineering, project management, and construction methods associated with electric utility facilities, normally acquired through a minimum of 3 years' relevant engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing, and ability to learn additional software tools to perform work.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN continuous improvement principles and best practices to achieve operational excellence.
  • Working knowledge of SafeStart principles and best practices to achieve a safe workplace environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good leadership skills, including effective written, oral, and listening communications skills, and interpersonal skills, to work effectively with all levels of the company, outside contractors and consultants, governmental agencies, community groups, and customers.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle confrontational, difficult, and/or sensitive issues, and ability to handle such issues with professionalism while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Ability to do in-depth analytical and administrative skills for tasks such as preparing and monitoring project requirements and resolving cost and time constraints, conflicting priorities.
