Organizational Overview
United Way of the Mid-South has a rich history of service, continuing its philanthropic efforts to support numerous high-impact non-profit organizations dedicated to assisting individuals in need across a broad service area. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents by mobilizing and coordinating community resources to tackle pressing issues.
In its evolution, the organization has transitioned from traditional fundraising to spearheading an innovative community-level model that significantly improves the lives of individuals and families. By employing the principles of collective impact, we have established a robust network of partners aimed at breaking the cycle of generational poverty through a systematic and holistic approach. A recent substantial grant from the state has further propelled our vision of creating a comprehensive human services delivery system that empowers individuals and families to achieve meaningful social and financial progress.
Position Overview
The Board of Directors is in search of a forward-thinking non-profit executive who can expand the reach and effectiveness of our initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in leading results-driven non-profit organizations and demonstrate a profound understanding of the challenges faced by families in poverty. A proven track record in fundraising and the ability to cultivate strong relationships with community leaders, funders, and partners is essential. The Board seeks an inspiring leader who has successfully fostered a vibrant organizational culture and developed processes that enhance long-term sustainability and effectiveness.
The President and CEO will oversee a dedicated team and manage a significant annual budget derived from various funding sources, including public and private grants, corporate contributions, and individual donations. The primary responsibility will be to secure financial resources and ensure that these funds are strategically invested to transform communities and disrupt the cycle of poverty.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and continuously refine the organization’s comprehensive multi-year strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Build and lead a strong executive team.
- Oversee the ongoing execution of initiatives by enhancing existing networks, exploring new partnerships, securing sustainable funding, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Ensure the financial sustainability of the organization by maintaining corporate partnerships and diversifying revenue streams.
- Enhance visibility in the community and establish the organization as a thought leader in driving systemic change.
- Foster an inclusive and high-performance workplace culture.
- Navigate effectively within the political and social landscape of the broader network.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key government officials and community leaders.
- Position oneself as a thought leader on trends affecting the non-profit sector and poverty alleviation strategies.
- Invest in organizational technology and processes to ensure accurate financial reporting and accountability.
- Maintain strong relationships with the Board of Directors to ensure engagement and informed decision-making.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within all organizational strategies and initiatives.
Successful Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have significant senior management experience in leading large non-profit organizations or relevant business experience, with a strong preference for those familiar with the region's social and economic challenges. Key attributes include:
