Overview

This role is situated within the Prosthetics & Sensory Aid Service of the Veterans Health Administration. The primary objective of this position is to facilitate the procurement of medical supplies and manage inventory to support both administrative and clinical operations, ensuring that all necessary resources are available for the provision of prosthetic and sensory aid services to Veterans.

This position offers a career progression opportunity. The responsibilities outlined below reflect the full performance level of GS-6. At the GS-5 level, the employee will undertake tasks with a more limited scope and under closer supervision.
  • Conducts purchasing activities in compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Veterans Affairs Acquisition Regulations (VAAR) to procure Veteran-specific medical equipment and supplies based on clinical assessments.
  • Prepares and submits procurement documentation to the relevant contracting office, ensuring all necessary quotes and invoices are properly uploaded to the electronic management system.
  • Confirms vendor eligibility through the Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) and ensures compliance with the System for Award Management (SAM).
  • Maintains accurate records of all expenditures related to prosthetics and ensures accountability for each Veteran's obligations.
  • Documents the services provided, including type and duration.
  • Engages in complex purchasing activities that require thorough research and collaboration to secure the best value for Veterans.
  • Handles routine purchasing through established contracts, utilizing significant research and analysis.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Probationary period may be required.
  • Background/security investigation is mandatory.
  • Completion of an online onboarding process is required.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all health care personnel.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for all health care personnel.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet one of the following:

For the GS-5 level:

Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 level, including administrative duties in a healthcare environment, reviewing medical records, and assisting in purchasing medical equipment. ~OR~

Education: Completion of four years of education above high school in any relevant field. ~OR~

Combination: Equivalent combinations of education and specialized experience.

For the GS-6 level:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level, including interpreting medical requests, maintaining vendor relationships, and utilizing various databases for procurement.
