Position Overview

At Roanoke College, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where students can thrive. Our dining services team plays a pivotal role in enhancing the campus experience, contributing positively to students' well-being and academic performance. We are currently looking for a dedicated Evening Dining Room Attendant.

The Sutton Commons serves as the primary dining venue at Roanoke College, offering an all-you-can-eat experience in a vibrant setting that accommodates over 500 guests. Located within the Colket Campus Center, this space is designed to be a central hub for students, faculty, and staff, providing exceptional hospitality while adapting to the evolving needs of our community. The role of the Serving Line Attendant is essential in realizing this vision, with a starting compensation of $15.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and arrange serving lines with the necessary food items and utensils, ensuring efficient service to patrons.
  • Monitor food availability and replenish serving lines proactively to prevent shortages.
  • Assist in the preparation of various food items for all meal services.
  • Maintain cleanliness of utensils, serving areas, and equipment utilized in food preparation.
  • Implement and uphold safety and sanitation protocols as directed by health authorities and management.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • No formal educational prerequisites.
  • Ability to accurately measure, document, and report food usage and temperatures.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices.
  • ServSafe certification is preferred, or the willingness to obtain certification within six months.
  • Strong customer service orientation and a commitment to delivering quality hospitality experiences.
  • Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment and food service operations is advantageous but not mandatory.

Our staff is expected to exhibit courtesy, respect, and professionalism in all interactions with students, faculty, and the broader community. This full-time position aligns with the academic calendar and requires availability every other weekend. While COVID-19 vaccinations are encouraged, they are not mandatory. Uniforms and a non-slip shoe allowance are provided, along with complimentary meals during scheduled shifts.
