Ultrasound Tech II Job Description

UNC Health Care is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Tech II to join our team in the Maternal Fetal Medicine department. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for operating diagnostic medical equipment to expose complex diagnostic conditions and performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist radiologists in performing invasive diagnostic techniques, such as needle biopsies, aspirations, and guided needle-wire placement exams for surgery.
  • Evaluate contra-indications, such as medications, insufficient patient preparation, or the patient's inability or unwillingness to tolerate the procedure.
  • Perform ultrasound procedures under general or direct supervision, as defined by the procedure and/or physician.
  • Recognize sonographic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissues, structures, and blood flow.
  • Analyze sonography findings throughout the examination to provide a comprehensive report.
  • Recognize situations or abnormalities that require direct observation of the real-time scan by the radiologist.
  • Image structures while obtaining Doppler signal and recording images and Doppler shift recordings along with patient information for interpretation by a radiologist.
  • Advise radiologists and/or referring physicians of results and provide preliminary information regarding diagnostic evaluation.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of a 12-month program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography/General Ultrasound or equivalent certificate program.
  • RDMS registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with certification in at least one modality specific to the department of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Three years of experience as an Ultrasound Tech.
  • Must complete all departmental specific Sonographer competencies within 12 months from date of hire and complete all annual modality competencies and assigned continual education to maintain Ultrasound Tech II status.
