Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at UNC Health Care, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care by performing diagnostic ultrasound exams. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal performance and image quality.
  • Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound exams, including abdominal, small parts, OB/GYN, breast, and pediatric sonography.
  • Assist radiologists with invasive procedures, such as biopsies, injections, and aspirations.
  • Summarize exam findings on a report worksheet and communicate impressions to radiologists.
  • Work closely with radiologists to train resident physicians, fellows, and students assigned to the area.
  • Maintain CPR certification, CME credits, and active ARDMS certification.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a 12-month program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or General Ultrasound.
  • RDMS registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligibility with registration within one year from date of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
