Job Summary

The Health Record Technician I performs a variety of health information-related functions, including processing Release of Information (ROI) document requests, assisting in sorting, prepping, and scanning patient documents, and maintaining tracking logs of ROI requests. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage health information requests, including ROI documents
  • Assist in sorting, prepping, and scanning patient documents
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date tracking logs of ROI requests
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely documentation
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • One year of California state service clerical experience, including training and supervised work experience in the procurement and processing of health data, or two years of clerical experience in the medical or health records section of a health facility
  • Successful completion of an academic curriculum in medical records science in an accredited school may be substituted for the required general experience on a year-for-year basis

Working Conditions

Travel is required for this position.

If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Pursuant to the Public Health Orders (issued by the California Department of Public Health and the directive issued by the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR), all staff assigned to this post/position may be required to show evidence of full vaccination and booster for COVID-19, absent an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation precluding them from vaccination.
