Position Overview
The Law Enforcement Officer is tasked with maintaining public safety, enforcing legal statutes, and safeguarding the rights of individuals. Responsibilities may vary based on departmental needs and can include various specialized roles such as: Drug Enforcement, School Safety Officer, Emergency Response Unit, Court Bailiff, Training Officer, Mobile Response Team, Compliance Officer, and Water Patrol Officer.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conducts patrols of roadways, waterways, and trails utilizing various modes of transportation including vehicles, foot, snowmobiles, boats, and aircraft. Monitors for traffic violations, criminal activities, unsafe conduct, and any suspicious behavior.
2. Investigates all service calls and incidents observed. Engages with witnesses, suspects, and victims. Collects evidence, photographs, and documents crime scenes while coordinating with other agencies as necessary.
3. Responds to a variety of service calls including medical emergencies, crimes, and public safety concerns.
4. Takes appropriate action based on the situation, which may involve apprehending suspects, managing hazardous situations, protecting victims, providing first aid, and ensuring public safety.
5. Maintains detailed reports of all service calls and incidents, documenting actions taken, procedures followed, and evidence collected. Completes necessary legal forms as required.
6. Acts as an official representative of the court by serving legal documents and executing warrants.
7. Processes individuals into the detention facility, ensuring their safety and compliance with procedures.
8. Prepares for shifts by reviewing service calls and updates from supervisors.
9. Operates and maintains law enforcement equipment including vehicles, computers, and communication devices, ensuring all are in proper working order.
10. Engages with community groups and the public on law enforcement and safety topics, assisting with educational initiatives.
11. Provides testimony in legal proceedings as required.
12. Transports individuals in custody to various locations including court and medical facilities.
13. Maintains proficiency in required skills such as firearm operation, emergency response, and crisis management.
14. Participates in ongoing training regarding updates in laws and departmental policies.
15. Upholds Minnesota P.O.S.T. License requirements through continuous education and training.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of education in Law Enforcement.
  • One to two years of relevant experience.
  • POST licensed or eligible.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of psychological and physical evaluations.
  • Pass a thorough background check.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
