Job Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist plays a crucial role in performing diagnostic analyses on patient specimens to assist healthcare providers in diagnosing and monitoring various health conditions. This position adheres to established protocols and is responsible for preparing samples for analysis. The technologist evaluates test outcomes for precision, acceptability, and critical thresholds. Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with patients, healthcare professionals, and laboratory staff is essential. This role relies heavily on educational background and training to fulfill its responsibilities.

    1. Age-specific patient care needs are assessed and interpreted based on individual status, ensuring accurate completion of competency evaluations for age-specific criteria.
    2. Maintains an acceptable productivity level with minimal error rates across various laboratory procedures, including but not limited to testing cells and microorganisms in bodily fluids, examining bacterial and fungal growth patterns in specimens, analyzing blood and other fluids, and conducting blood compatibility tests.
    3. Pre-analytical testing, such as specimen integrity and sample identification verification, is performed consistently, with no more than two incidents reported annually.
    4. Testing result accuracy is verified and reported in compliance with established regulations and timelines.

    1. Specimen integrity, result accuracy, and inter-result validity are routinely evaluated, resulting in no more than two complaints or incidents per year.
    2. Inadequate specimens are identified and documented, with communication to the patient's healthcare provider for potential recollection.
    3. Daily quality control and assurance procedures are executed in accordance with established policies.
    4. Relevant personnel are promptly informed to assess the validity of test results when challenges arise.
    5. Actively engages in departmental or organizational quality improvement initiatives, evidenced by participation in at least two minor quality enhancement activities.

    1. Collaborates effectively to address issues, enhance processes, and develop services, as indicated by the absence of customer complaints.
    2. Delegates and supervises the performance of support staff according to their training levels and in compliance with state regulations.

Qualifications

Experience: Preferred but not mandatory
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Technology (MT), or a related field in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science
Training: One year of training in a NAACLS accredited MT/CLS program
Special Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective teamwork abilities; critical thinking and decision-making skills; exceptional organizational capabilities
Licensure: Must hold a valid license in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Specialist (CLS-S) with appropriate registry in the relevant specialty for the department.
