The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for conducting intricate laboratory tests and performing phlebotomy as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts laboratory analyses and procedures requiring independent judgment and minimal supervision.
  • Records daily quality control and implements corrective actions as needed.
  • Performs calibrations, linearity assessments, and proficiency evaluations as mandated.
  • Inputs and verifies laboratory results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Assists in the training and onboarding of new departmental staff.
  • Addresses issues related to technical testing and proficiency assessments.
  • Reviews and assesses test outcomes for accuracy and consistency.
  • Collects data, generates reports, and compiles relevant statistics.
  • Monitors supply inventory levels.
  • Participates in mandatory meetings and engages in professional development opportunities.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a related field, as recognized by accrediting bodies.
  • Completion of a one-year internship in an accredited laboratory.
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of at least 90 semester hours in an accredited institution that meets the criteria for medical technology internship programs.
  • Certification from ASCP or NCA.
Typical Physical Demands:
  • Requires full range of motion, including manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Frequent standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Requires visual acuity and normal color perception.
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and other typical laboratory environments.
