School Liaison Librarian

The La Porte County Public Library is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Librarian to serve as a School Liaison, responsible for developing and implementing outreach and programming promoting the relationships between the Library and area schools and students (preK - 8th grades).
Key Responsibilities- Develops and coordinates outreach and services to students, schools, preschools, daycares, and homeschoolers in the district.
- Initiates, develops, and maintains close working relationships with school librarians and teachers.
- Plans and presents informative programs, including classes and events related to youth (Ages birth through 17 years).
- Develops collections that align with supporting homeschool, online learning, and traditional school learning, and familiar with all collections and services offered, including readers advisory and information services with particular knowledge of school-age youth literature and youth reader's advisory.
- Develops and conducts library classes/events, community educational initiatives, and special events, adding elements of technology into classes.
- Develops kits and delivers lessons and trainings for educators and students.
- Participates on planning committees and provides marketing content and information for classes/events and initiatives.
- Writes requests for proposals for grants, services, and programs.
- Attends conferences, workshops, and training sessions as part of ongoing professional development.
- Bachelor's degree and/or Master's in Library Science with a focus on services to youth and service to schools or a valid certification in Library Science PK-12 from the Indiana Department of Education or the ability to obtain within 3 years.
- Experience working with teachers and/or children in a school or public library setting.
- Ability to use creativity and innovation in planning and conducting classes and events.
- Good judgment when making independent decisions.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
- Comfortable and confident working in an environment with a variety of hardware devices and software products, and willingness to learn new technologies.
- Positive, adaptable, and forward-thinking attitude.
- Ability to display appropriate demeanor at all times, including dress, body language, and facial expressions.
- Valid Indiana driver's license and ability to travel around La Porte County to schools.
The La Porte County Public Library is an office environment with occasional exposure to outside weather conditions, odor, noise, heat, and cold. The position requires occasional driving of company vehicles to all locations and scheduled stops. The physical requirements include frequently lifting and carrying 10-50 pounds, occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds using a cart, and occasional sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting, grasping, and reaching above shoulders to move materials. The position also requires the ability to respond to fire alarms, warning sirens, and phone pages.
