Position Summary:

The Southern Utah Museum of Art, located within the Southern Utah University campus, showcases a diverse array of artwork from local and national artists, including renowned figures in the art world. Since its inception, the museum has also expanded its focus to include contemporary photography, enhancing its reputation as a premier cultural institution.

The Visitor Experience Coordinator role is an entry-level position that leads a collaborative team dedicated to enhancing the visitor experience at the museum. This position involves coordinating the activities of the Visitor Experience staff while also supporting the Director of Learning & Visitor Experience in optimizing processes related to visitor engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the scheduling and time-off requests for the Visitor Experience team, including special events and rentals.
  • Assist in welcoming visitors and ensure the team is well-informed about current exhibitions and programs.
  • Collect and analyze visitor demographic data for monthly and annual reporting to the museum's advisory board and for grant applications.
  • Handle transactions and perform daily cash and credit reconciliations.
  • Respond to phone inquiries, provide information, and assist visitors as needed.
  • Support event execution based on priorities established by the Director of Learning & Visitor Experience.
  • Act as a liaison among department heads to coordinate the scheduling of Visitor Experience team members for various projects.
  • Maintain communication with the custodial team and manage work orders related to front-of-house operations.
  • Update museum signage and assist with website and Google updates as necessary.
  • Coordinate poster distribution in collaboration with the Marketing and Visitor Experience teams.
  • Oversee the implementation of the museum's Accessibility Plan, ensuring all programs and facilities are accessible to all patrons.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Design to develop and maintain online accommodation resources.
  • Review and approve accommodation aspects of all museum programming and events.
  • Work with the Exhibitions Manager to ensure all exhibition text meets accommodation needs.
  • Assist with gallery rotations and public programming in conjunction with the Coordinator of Engagement.
  • Ensure the SUMA Shop is visually appealing and recommend new merchandise based on visitor feedback.
  • Manage point-of-sale system operations and maintenance.
  • Supervise third-party facility rentals and oversee the Visitor Experience team.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment built on respect and clear expectations.
  • Participate in department head meetings to maintain operational effectiveness.
  • Manage the team's budget with support from the Director of Learning & Visitor Experience.
  • Organize regular team meetings and oversee onboarding and training processes.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of special events and programs.
  • Support grant application processes in collaboration with the Business Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications, especially Google Sheets.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • A university degree is preferred.
  • At least one year of recent cash management experience is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and some evenings.
