About the Role

Smithfield Foods is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to join our team. As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will be responsible for investigating employee relations matters, providing summary reports and remediation recommendations, and identifying trends through quarterly reporting for targeted training programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigation and Reporting: Conduct thorough and objective investigations into employee relations concerns, including harassment, discrimination, wage/hours, and retaliation. Prepare summary reports and provide recommendations for issue resolution.
  • Coaching and Training: Provide coaching, training, and counseling to HR professionals on the proper way to conduct investigations, document all steps of the process, and close out cases.
  • Policy Interpretation and Consistency: Interpret and drive consistency of HR policies and practices across the organization.
  • Case Management: Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records in the investigation file regarding all investigations.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with site leaders, HR Business Partners, and other stakeholders to ensure that all policies and procedures are understood, communicated, and consistently administered.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in HR or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2+ years of relevant experience in HR, with a demonstrated understanding of how to handle investigations and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Skills: Strong communication and administrative skills, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills, ability to work well with employees at all levels of the organization, and ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Language Skills: Bi-lingual ability to read, write, and communicate in Spanish, French, Burmese, or Vietnamese.
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience in a professional-level role managing a process or area, with a demonstrated understanding of how to handle investigations and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
