Job Title: Computational Scientist

At Turion Space, we are seeking a highly skilled Computational Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our Space Algorithms group, you will be responsible for developing and implementing novel algorithms for solving complex problems in the space economy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and validate algorithmic solutions for challenging space-based applications
  • Research and identify useful algorithms for low-thrust trajectory optimization and cislunar trajectory design
  • Optimize the runtime performance of existing implementations and extend the existing algorithmic suite
  • Develop benchmarks and extensive testing programs for cislunar trajectory design
  • Contribute to team discussions and provide insight and feedback to drive innovation across related projects
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree with 2+ years of professional experience or PhD degree in Computational Physics, Applied Mathematics, Astrodynamics, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++
  • Strong understanding of orbital mechanics and experience implementing, testing, and validating optimization algorithms
  • Experience with data analysis, data engineering, and data exploration techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and strong engineering fundamentals
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Strong mathematical background in linear algebra, probability, numerical/statistical analysis, and/or robotics/control
  • Experience with nonlinear optimization, uncertainty quantification, numerical optimization methods, and computationally intensive simulations
  • Experience in trajectory optimization and/or mission planning applications
  • Ability to work autonomously and search for solutions with minimal direct supervision
