Perianesthesia Nurse

The Perianesthesia Nurse is a registered nurse responsible for the care of patients undergoing anesthesia. This role requires strong medical management skills and the ability to address critical medical emergencies.

• Pre-Surgical Preparation: Prepare patients for surgery or procedures, ensuring patient charts are initiated, assessments are complete, and necessary medications are administered.
• Patient Education: Provide instructions to patients and support persons on what to expect during the surgery process.
• Coordination of Care: Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure continuity of care and address patient needs.
• Post-Anesthesia Recovery: Monitor patient recovery from anesthesia and medical procedures, regularly recording vital signs and assessing for adverse reactions.
• Education and Training: Educate patients on potential reactions or side effects of anesthesia and provide post-procedure discharge instructions.
• Leadership and Development: Provide orientation and training to new employees and assist with financial management of the designated area.

• Education: Associate Degree as a Registered Nurse from an accredited school of nursing (Bachelor's Degree preferred).
• Experience: Minimum two years of ambulatory surgery, PACU, critical care, or strong medical/surgical nursing experience (five years or more preferred).
• Certifications: Registered Nurse valid to practice in the state of Indiana, Basic Life Safety, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course Certification.
