We are seeking a Field Survey Chief who will oversee and assess proposed field survey initiatives, lead field survey teams, and prepare, process, and coordinate essential field design survey tasks, construction staking survey activities, and various other surveys and daily survey logs. This role will support both public and private commercial, residential, and industrial development projects, aligning with client objectives, budget constraints, timelines, regulatory requirements, and community interests.
The ideal candidate will execute intricate surveying calculations utilizing engineering calculators, laptops, personal computers, and graphic software such as AutoCAD. They will analyze raw data for mathematical closure and geometric precision, provide survey data for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and generate finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, ALTA Surveys, corner staking, and other survey documentation.

Typical Responsibilities of a Field Survey Chief
In this role, you will act as the lead for a field survey crew engaged in creating plans and conducting geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects. You will participate in pre-survey planning discussions with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives; assign and oversee tasks, and contribute to the evaluation of field survey crew members. As the senior field surveyor, you will be proficient in survey and mapping techniques, equipment usage, and field safety protocols.
Your responsibilities will include gathering field survey data using conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods; setting up, adjusting, and operating surveying equipment, including electronic total stations, data collectors, and GPS devices to measure distances, elevations, and angles; preparing field notes and drawings; and conducting field surveys for roadway, bridge, and flood control projects. This includes installing construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right-of-way markers, corners, boundaries, and property lines.
