POSITION SUMMARY:

The Freight Audit Manager is tasked with the critical role of scrutinizing and validating freight shipments alongside their corresponding invoice payment details in accordance with client contracts, terms, and applicable pricing structures. The primary objective is to uncover billing inconsistencies and confirm any overpayments made by clients, aiming to recover funds and minimize inaccuracies to enhance overall profitability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conduct thorough analysis and interpretation of carrier freight agreements while auditing invoice payment details.

· Investigate and pinpoint invoices that fail to comply with contractual pricing and service stipulations.

· Diagnose potential errors and identify instances of duplicate billing from carriers.

· Review carrier freight invoices and interpret relevant tariffs and agreements.

· Liaise with carriers and clients to resolve audit-related issues.

· Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of essential freight documentation that substantiates charges and is necessary for payment processing.

· Assist in managing optimal staffing levels for the audit team; leverage team resources and capabilities to maximize recovery opportunities; guide team processes and workflows; provide consistent feedback to enhance audit effectiveness.

· Generate audit projections for designated projects; achieve claim generation objectives for each initiative.

· Engage in pre-data discussions, audit planning sessions, and other meetings as required by management.

· Collaborate with audit management to aid in the formulation of audit plans, project designs, and data requirements; coordinate necessary data with IT departments.

· Deliver timely updates regarding audit status and any issues to audit management.

· Document the audit process comprehensively.

· Support the implementation of best practices within the audit framework.

· May oversee audit plans, scope parameters, and due diligence documentation for audits.

· May supervise the work of two or more full-time employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year institution, preferably in Business, Finance, or Accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· At least five years of progressively complex experience in transportation systems within a technical environment related to logistics carriers or customer service.

· Strong understanding of shipping methods and relevant pricing structures, including tariffs and discounts.

· High-level analytical skills to assess and process carrier requests while comprehending client operational and data processing systems.

· Proficient in understanding and discussing critical freight documentation that supports charges and is necessary for payment.

· Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team setting.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

· Advanced proficiency in Excel and Access is required.
