Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant II to join our team at Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant II, you will play a vital role in the processing, organizing, labeling, and transporting of specimens for laboratory testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process, organize, label, and transport specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Perform advanced functions such as phlebotomy and/or section-specific specialty tasks.
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor for other staff.
  • Input and extract data from the Laboratory Information System.
  • Perform various Laboratory Information System functions.
  • File requisitions, reports, and other pathology materials appropriately.
  • Answer the telephone and refer requests for the delivery of results to physician offices appropriately.
  • Independently handle resolution of complex problems and issues and notify management of issue and resolution.
  • Serve as escalation support for less experienced staff.
  • Organize workload, set priorities, and troubleshoot workflow issues.
  • Utilize all available work time by assisting others and performing additional tasks.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant certification (e.g., phlebotomy, medical laboratory assistant).
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. The Medical Laboratory Assistant II must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
