Clinical Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at Bon Secours Community Hospital. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing laboratory technical duties, including patient testing and reporting, quality control, and equipment function checks and maintenance.
Responsibilities- Perform patient testing, including patient preparation, specimen collection, handling, processing, and testing in a timely manner.
- Operate computer functions to process test orders, including test ordering, printing labels, recording correct collection and receipt times, crediting/cancelling orders, resulting, and patient inquiry functions.
- Troubleshoot orders and provide proper communication to clinicians as appropriate.
- Prioritize work appropriately, with Stat testing performed within established guidelines.
- Notify the appropriate party when a delay is anticipated as per protocol.
- Record and report test results appropriately, calling the appropriate person with critical values in a timely manner.
- Perform and record all required quality control testing.
- Troubleshoot as necessary, documenting all corrective action.
- Perform instrument function checks and maintenance with proper documentation.
- Effectively communicate with laboratory staff to assure effective and efficient operations.
- Assist in the training of technologists/technicians.
- Notify immediate supervisor of issues and concerns as appropriate.
- Notify immediate supervisor when supply levels are low.
- Assure the required number of continuing education credits are maintained annually.
- Assure licensure is current and submit license renewals in a timely manner.
- Assist in the Quality Control program activities, such as quality control review, equipment maintenance, and function checks. Serve as a resource for laboratory technicians as necessary.
- Valid New York State Department of Health license as a laboratory technologist.
- Must meet NYS personnel guidelines to function as a supervisor (a minimum of six years relevant work experience).
- National registration preferred (NCA/ASCP).
- Work requires demonstrated interpersonal skills to communicate tactfully, effectively, and with discretion.
